Evolon FAQ's...

What is Evolon?
Evolon is a nonwoven microfibre material made from polyester and nylon. Although synthetic it has the touch and feel of a natural material.

What Evolon products are available?

Evolon Standard and Evolon Soft. Spunart always hold stock of both qualities.

What colours does it come in?

Evolon is available in white.

Why would I want to use Evolon?

Evolon is ideal to use as a base cloth for any kind of stitch. It is robust, does not fray and quilts beautifully, giving an interesting textural effect. Evolon Soft is rather similar to a very short piled velvet, but much easier to work with. Both can be painted, dyed, glued, stitched, embroidered, and distressed with soldering iron or heat gun.

Who uses Evolon?

Evolon has been used by quilters, embroiderers, artists and teachers.

How can I colour Evolon?

It is possible to use just about any type of paint to colour evolon. Evolon will give fabulous results when dyed and is also ideal for use with transfer dyes painted onto paper and then heat transferred onto the Evolon by use of a hot iron.

What about paints?

If it works on cloth, it will work on Evolon. A wide range of paints are suitable such as acrylic paints, Setacolor, fabric paints.

Can I print on it?

The transfer dyeing process lends itself to printing as well as painting, with a suitable thickener.

Can I use heat to distress Evolon?

It is possible to use both heat gun and a soldering iron for distressed effects; it tolerates the heat of a hot iron in the transfer dyeing process, but if you leave the iron on the material too long, you can also produce a distressed effect, sometimes when you didn’t intend it. When burning Evolon we recommend you avoid breathing in the vapours, working in a well ventilated area and wearing a respirator.

Can I use Lutradur and Evolon together?

Evolon makes a great partner for Lutradur. Use Evolon below the lightweight Lutradur to add texture and visual interest. Appliqué pieces of Evolon with holes burned into it onto the heavier weight Lutradur for a stunning visual effect.

How can I buy Evolon?

You can either purchase your Lutradur directly and safely online using your credit card, or if you prefer by calling +44 (0) 1332 554610.
